Elan Cafe

Elan is probably one of the prettiest cafes I have visited. Ever. It is simply stunning. Perfectly instagramable. The cakes are the perfect picture and the coffee perfectly creamy.

I visited their location on Brompton Road on a rainy Saturday morning. There was a queue at the door at 11am so be prepared to wait. Go inside, get your name on the list and the waitress will call you when your table is ready. I hate waiting for a tablet but trust me, this one is so worth the wait.

The selection of cakes by the window is almost too much. How on Earth are you supposed to choose just one of those beautiful masterpieces?! After much deliberation, discussion and even recommendations from our smiling waitress we opted for the following; chocolate and raspberry sponge, carrot cake, peanut butter cheesecake and a luxurious Dulce de Leche cake that was not on display but in a fridge behind the counter. Ask about this fridge.. it would appear there are more delicious treats hidden out of site! To accompany our cake there was a mix glorious caffeine mix on the table; a cappuccino, Americano, latte and a Ruby latte -a coffee alternative with beetroot and ginger and oh so pretty to look at, surprisingly tasty too.

Their brunch offering looked divine. My head kept following the various plates of poached eggs and avocado on toast that were being brought out to numerous tables in the packed cafe. My advice; make sure you have room for brunch and cake when you visit.

The decor – there are no words. I’ll let the photos do the talking.

The only thing that took away a tiny bit of Elan’s sparkle was that almost everyone (including myself) had their phone in their hand or on the table. I don’t think I saw one plate come out that didn’t have a photo taken by the eager owner. In this day and age, and given just how beautiful Elan is, I shouldn’t have been surprised but it did feel like there was more photos being taken than conversation being enjoyed.

I would highly recommend a trip to Elan if you’re in London. It is my kind of pretty, floral, delicious, magical cafe with cakes that do not disappoint.

Kim’s tip: get there early to avoid the queue!
