Calle Vallehermoso 112, Madrid
One of my favourite things about Madrid is that there is always a new café to visit. A friend recommended Monkee Koffee to me so we headed off for coffee and a catch up on a sunny Sunday morning.
From the outside Monkee Koffee doesn’t look particularly special but when you walk through the automatic doors a quirky and chilled energy immediately hits you.
The café offers a selection of seriously delicious looking cakes and some great brunch plates, which looked divine and very healthy. Of course, I opted for a sweet treat to accompany my coffee – if you haven’t gathered by now, I have a very sweet tooth which runs in the family.
I ordered a slice of the lemon and poppy seed bizcocho. For those of you not familiar with “bizcocho”- it’s the Spanish word for sponge cake and is really popular across Spain, available in a variety of flavours. Monkee Koffee’s bizcocho was the best that I have tasted in Madrid! It was light, spongey and moist; with the perfect amount of lemon zing and poppy seeds.
Their café manchado was on point – not too bitter and, nice and creamy.
The staff were really welcoming and the general atmosphere was relaxed and friendly – the perfect spot for a catch up. It’s a coffee shop that I think will become a favourite of mine here in Madrid.
I would love to hear about your favourite coffee shops in Madrid so please join the conversation 🙂
